Grammar & Writing Workshop

Course Description

This course intends to reinforce students with better grammar skills and develop stronger overall writing practices common to writing assignments and expectations they will encounter in their future. Through different forms of literature (mostly short stories, non-fiction, and poetry), students will learn various forms of writing. Then, the class will transition into their own writing practices, all while paying attention to grammar throughout the course. Students will also begin to understand and appreciate the significance of World Literature and the culture in which it was written.

What Does This Mean?

Students should think of this course as a boot camp to strengthen their overall writing ability. This means that students will work hard in this class and be asked to do work that they may or may not have seen before. However, like boot camp (only friendlier, less physical, and without the haircut requirement), this class is a testing ground rather than a battleground. As a testing ground, this course is an opportunity to practice and sharpen students’ writing, discussion, and revising skills needed to go on to high school.

Requirements & Prerequisties

One full, completed year of middle school ELA is required. Therefore, students must be a rising 7th, 8th, or 9th grader.
